he Makassar City Police arrested on Monday a drug trafficker in possession of 1.1 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine worth nearly Rp 2 billion (US$154,000).
Makassar City Police narcotics unit deputy chief Comr. Muhammad Fajri said the suspect, identified only as JR, 21, was arrested on Monday morning at a boarding house on Jl. Toddopuli, Makassar, after being on the run for a month.
The suspect admitted that he obtained the contraband from a man living in Nunukan, East Kalimantan, who dispatched it through a boat berthed at Parepare Port in South Sulawesi.
'I was ordered to pick up the package at Parepare Port, after getting a call from the dispatcher from Nunukan last week. I've kept the package for a week because I've not received instructions on who to send it to,' said JR.
JR admitted he had twice picked up drug consignments from Nunukan. 'Last month, I only picked up 100 grams and I was paid Rp 1 million. Last week, I picked up another kilogram but I have not received payment,'
he added.
