PP India XI rose to the occasion in style when they outplayed Jakarta Barbarians by 104 runs in the final Division-1 elimination of the Apple Coal Jakarta Cricket League 2014-15, thus qualifying for the Grand Final.
Sent in to bat first at Cibubur, WPP started cautiously with 33/1 (12 overs) and 103/4 (24 overs) before being bowled out for 174 in 33.4 overs. Skipper Pallav Malhotra was once again among the runs as he led the way with a well-compiled 45, supported by good knocks from Rahul Pagad (35) and Bhuwan (27 not out). Scott Masson (four for 42) was the pick of the Barbarians' bowlers with Ben Burgess (three for 39) & Lindsay Wood (two for 21) also chipping in with the ball.
In reply, the Barbarians could not come to terms with the accurate bowling of Bhuwan (three for 17) and Dhiraj Nagpal (two for 15) and were bundled out for a paltry 70 in 29.2 overs. Only Scott Masson (28 not out) offered any resistance for the Barbarians with the bat.
In the final Division-2 elimination of the season, TKCC pulled off a sensational three-wicket victory over Division-2 winners Fez Rebels at GMIS. With this win, TKCC is promoted to Division-1 next season.
Marten Eddy's dream season continued, as he compiled an excellent unbeaten 106, which helped take Fez Rebels to 290 for eight in 35 overs. Corbon Loughnan (53) helped swell the Rebels' total while young Hitesh Malhotra (three for 53) continued his impressive form for TKCC and he was well backed up by Swaroop Chavan (three for 58). Facing a mammoth target of 291 for victory, Neeraj Chaddha led the chase with a brilliant 95, with Dipak Grover (48) and Anil Gawda (39) joining in the run-fest as TKCC achieved victory with 294 for seven in 33 overs. Corbon Loughnan picked up three for 49 for the losers.
It is now on to the Grand Final on Sunday, 31st May when defending champions WISCI Wanderers will be bidding for a fourth consecutive title when they take on a much-improved WPP India XI at Cibubur.
