Jokowi takes part in Car Free Day in hometown

P

resident Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo enjoyed his weekend holiday by taking part in a Car Free Day event in his hometown of Surakarta, Central Java.

Tightly escorted by Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) officers, Jokowi arrived at the location of the Car Free Day event on Jl. Slamet Riyadi, Surakarta, at 7 a.m. local time on Sunday.

Accompanied by Surakarta Mayor FX Hadi Rudyatmo, President Jokowi, who wore sports attire, took a relaxed walk starting from the Gendengan intersection to Gladag Square, which are around four kilometers from each other.

The President'€™s arrival surprised Car Free Day visitors who packed the city'€™s main road. Surakarta residents jostled enthusiastically with each other to shake hands with the President, and even asked to take selfies together with him.

In Gladag Square, Jokowi distributed thousands of writing books to children before he left the area in a Mercedes Benz with license plate number B 1190 RFS.

The President, First Lady Iriana and their entourage arrived at Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Surakarta via a commercial flight on Saturday evening. They directly headed to the President'€™s private residence in Sember.

There is no state agenda that President Jokowi will carry out during his stay in Surakarta. It is predicted that his return is related to preparations for the planned wedding of his oldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, with Miss Solo 2009, Selvi Ananda. (ebf)(+++)
