Novel'€™s pretrial petition hearing begins

T

he South Jakarta District Court is scheduled to hear the pretrial petition case filed by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan.

'€œThe court'€™s agenda tomorrow [Monday] is to hear the pretrial petition. The petition has been registered with the court,'€ said Mudji Kartika Rahayu, a lawyer representing Novel, on Sunday night.

Mudji said the hearing was scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Monday.

'€œNovel will attend the court hearing,'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com.

He said his client had a number of reasons for filing the pretrial petition, including those used by the police to arrest him and name him a suspect.

The police previously arrested and named Novel a suspect in the torture of a police suspect identified as Mulya Johani, alias Aan, in Bengkulu when Novel was the lead investigator in the province in 2004.

'€œLater, the reason used by the police for Novel'€™s arrest is other chapter of the Criminal Code,'€ said Asfinawati, another lawyer on Novel'€™s legal team. (rms)
