Osaka cooperation chance to develop maritime potentials: Envoy

T

he Indonesian consul general in Osaka, Wisnu Edi Pratignyo, has said an agreement between the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka to attract investment from businesspeople in Osaka and its surrounding areas could be beneficial in developing Indonesia'€™s maritime potentials as many investors in the areas had technological expertise in the maritime sector.

He further said that the synergy between the BKPM and consulate would strengthen economic diplomacy efforts in Japan.

'€œThe demand for processed fishery-based products in Japan is quite high while our maritime potentials are also huge. It would be really useful if fish processing companies in Osaka would invest in Indonesia and make it their production base for processed fish products,'€ Wisnu said as quoted by Antara on Monday.

Based on consulate data, Japanese investment potentials in Indonesia could reach US$10.89 billion. This is in various sectors, including agriculture, electricity, maritime and labor-intensive industries and import substitutes.

Meanwhile, investment potentials being pushed forward to enter construction realization amount to $4.9 billion and Rp 38.01 trillion ($2.89 billion).

This includes investment potentials conveyed during President Joko Widodo'€™s visit to Japan in March. (ebf)
