he United Development Party (PPP) camp led by Djan Faridz has welcomed an offer to reconcile by the rival Romahurmuziy camp to end dualism in the party's leadership and to enable the party to contest the upcoming simultaneous local elections.
'We also want to reconcile immediately,' said the deputy chairman of the Djan Faridz faction, Epyardi Azra, on Tuesday.
Epyardi explained that Djan Faridz and the Romahurmuziy camps had maintained relations despite the prolonged internal conflict and that both sides communicated informally to avoid hostility within the party.
'Our camp has continually used persuasive measures to minimize the conflict,' he said.
The deputy secretary-general of the Romahurmuziy camp, Hasrul Azwar, previously hailed the limited reconciliation between the Golkar Party's conflicting factions even though it was aimed merely at enabling the party to contest local elections. He said he wanted to see similar reconciliation occur within the PPP. (rms)(++++)
