Islands in focus: Mayor Risma likely to be reelected

S

urabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini will likely be reelected in December, according to a survey that has found her electability to be very high.

A recent survey conducted by the Center for Political and Religious Research (Puspolitika), the results of which were released in Surabaya on Monday, found that six months ahead of the simultaneous local elections scheduled for Dec. 9, Risma'€™s popularity had reached 93 percent while her electability was 43 percent.

The popularity of actress and National Awakening Party (PKB) senior member Arzeti Bilbina reached only 42 percent and her electability was five percent.

The survey conducted on May 18-23 with 100 respondents from various professional, religious and social backgrounds, highlighted only a small chance of Risma'€™s rivals winning the mayoral election.

'€œThis survey gives a temporary picture of the political chances of candidates who will contest the election,'€ Puspolitika executive director Muhammad Jacky said as quoted by kompas.com.

Besides Arzeti, as well as several other figures, including Sukoto, Wisnu Sakti Buana and Dhimam Abror, have been nominated to compete against Risma in the elections.
