ouse of Representatives deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah has said that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should not comment further on the victorious verdict of the former chairman of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), Hadi Poernomo, in a pretrial motion he filed against being named a graft suspect.
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) lawmaker said that the court's decision, which ruled in favor of Hadi and deemed the KPK's investigation 'illegal', should not be discussed further and should be a lesson for the KPK to reflect on its practices.
'The decision should just be upheld instead of being discussed. If they want to discuss it further, then it has to go through the whole legal process again,' Fahri told reporters at the House complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He expressed hope that the court loss would make the KPK reevaluate its leadership.
'This loss should lead to introspection by the KPK on how it conducts its operations,' he added.
Previously, Fahri said that with Hadi's victory, the KPK had been proven to conduct legal acts that violated the Criminal Law Procedures Code (KUHAP), but they had been overlooked because of the institution's popularity among the public.
The South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday ruled in favor of Hadi and declared the KPK's investigation into the former BPK chairman 'invalid' on the basis that the agency's investigators were 'illegal' because they were not attached to the police force or the prosecutor's office.
This is the third time the KPK has lost a pretrial motion involving a graft suspect. Other cases involved graft suspects Budi Gunawan (now deputy police chief) and former Makassar mayor Ilham Arief. (hhr)(++++)
