China to launch non-cable TV channel in RI

hinese state television company China Central Television (CCTV) has partnered with Indonesian content provider PT Elnet Media Bersama to launch the Hi-Indo! television station in Indonesia, a free-to-air channel that will broadcasts Chinese programs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The channel will be the first channel to dedicate itself to completely broadcast Chinese programming in Indonesia.

Elnet chief operating officer Lie Jun Fie explained that the channel did a trial run in April, in which it broadcast programs delivered in Mandarin with Indonesian subtitles.

'€œThe program for Hi-Indo! currently comes from CCTV, but Elnet has the freedom to select which ones are suitable for broadcast here. Right now the focus of the channel will be entertainment programs such as dramas, documentaries, animated series and so forth,'€ Jun told The Jakarta Post on Thursday, during the channel'€™s launch.

He added that although the current programs were provided by CCTV, it was possible for Hi-Indo! to create original productions, such as televised seminars, which would present Chinese businessmen, in order to strengthen business ties with Indonesia.

Program dubbing into Indonesian will also be available once the channel has established its presence in Indonesia. Hi-Indo! will be available as a free-to-air station on televisions using the PALAPA-D satellite service. (ebf)(+++)
