t least 35 couples wed in a joint ceremony sponsored by the Malang city administration at Sahid Montana Hotel in Malang, East Java, on Thursday.
The oldest couple were Sunardi, 60, and his wife Hosniyah, 64, who are residents of Rampal Celaket subdistrict, while the youngest couple were Hasim, 22, and his wife Faifatul, 16, who are residents of Buring subdistrict.
The brides and grooms lined up outside the hotel hall before being invited to enter the hall in pairs. The grooms wore formal Javanese beskap shirts, sarongs and blangkon headdress, while the brides wore kebaya blouses and cloth.
Head of the Malang Community Welfare Service Unit Eddy Sulistyo said that initially the participants of the mass wedding was 36 couples. 'But because one of the participants died, the number consisted of only 35,' Eddy said as quoted by tribunnews.com. (hhr)(+++)
