ouse of Representatives speakers are scheduled to meet with a delegation from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) to discuss the possibility of the latter auditing the General Elections Commission (KPU), as suggested by House Commission II which oversees domestic governance, regional autonomy and state apparatuses.
'Through this audit, we want to know whether the KPU can function financially during the upcoming regional elections season, because the funds for the elections are significantly high,' House deputy speaker Agus Hermanto told reporters at the House compound on Thursday.
He said that Commission II's suggestion for a KPU audit was a positive move, and that it was necessary to evaluate all moves made by the election body that had not been discussed before.
Agus said the meeting would involve BPK representatives and be attended by Commission II speakers.
Similarly, House deputy speaker Taufik Kurniawan said the audit was needed due to the fact that the KPU had not been audited since the 2014 presidential and legislative elections.
Previously, Commission II speaker Rambe Kamarulzaman said the commission had agreed that the BPK should perform an audit on the KPU because funding for regional elections had ballooned from Rp 4 trillion [US$302 million] to Rp 7 trillion. (ebf)(+++)
