he Pekanbaru Corruption Court sentenced on Wednesday Asril Jasda and Firdaus to a year and 14 months in jail, respectively, after pronouncing them guilty of corruption in the procurement of Muslim garb for civil servants at the Kampar regency administration.
Asril, former Kampar Personnel Agency head, was responsible for the procurement, while Firdaus, as the director of CV Mulya Raya Mandiri, was the project contractor.
During the trial, the panel of judges, led by Amin Ismanto, said the defendants were proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt to have committed corruption together.
They were both required to pay a fine of Rp 50 million (about US$3,850), or face an additional month in jail.
'However, neither defendant is required to pay restitution as they returned Rp 438 million to the regency's coffers,' said Amin.
The case took place when the Kampar regency administration allocated Rp 2.4 billion for the procurement of 15,000 Muslim outfits in 2012. The project came to light when it was discovered that the procurement was carried out by direct appointment and that each district head in the regency received between Rp 80 million and Rp 200 million.
