ndonesia will soon send its energy and mineral resources minister to oil-rich Azerbaijan to explore opportunities in the energy sector, the chief economic minister has said.

'€œAzerbaijan is an important trading partner of Indonesia, especially in the energy sector. We will soon send our energy and mineral resources minister to Azerbaijan to explore more opportunities and boost cooperation,'€ Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil said during the Azerbaijan'€™s National Day celebration at the JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday night.

Azerbaijan, a regional power in Southern Caucasus, has been supplying crude oil to Indonesia'€™s oil refineries for many years.

'€œWe are contributing a lot to Indonesia'€™s energy security. Azerbaijan is currently one of the biggest suppliers of crude oil to Indonesia and the second-biggest trading partner of Indonesia among the CIS [Commonwealth of Independent States] countries,'€ Azerbaijan Ambassador to Indonesia Tamerlan Garayev told The Jakarta Post on the side lines of the event

Indonesia is also one of the biggest trading partners of Azerbaijan.

'€œOur bilateral trade with Indonesia last year reached nearly US$2.5 billion,'€ Ambassador Garayev said.

According to Central Statistics Agency date, bilateral trade between Azerbaijan and Indonesia surged to a record high of $2.42 billion, a huge jump from $1.74 billion in 2013. Apparently, the bilateral trade between Azerbaijan and Indonesia was higher that Indonesia'€™s two-way trade with France, which stood at $2.35 billion in 2014.
