he police have called on the government to speed up the audit of Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Petral), which could be an entry point for the police to investigate alleged corruption at the state-owned Pertamina's Singapore-based unit.
'To find any violations, an audit is necessary, either investigative audit or forensic one,' the director of economic crimes at the police's Detective Corps, Brig. Gen. Victor Edison Simanjuntak, was quoted as saying by kompas.com on Friday.
The government-backed Oil and Gas Reform Team has recommended that the government audit the company for irregularities and President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has ordered the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) to undertake the auditing.
Victor said the police wanted to know more about Petral, its operations and business condition that led to the liquidation of the company.
He said that an audit would enable the police to carry out their investigation into irregularities in the company.(rms)(++++)
