he rupiah interbank trade rate in Friday's first trading session strengthened by 30 basis points to Rp 13,193 per dollar from Rp 13,223 per dollar in the previous trade.
"Despite the strong effect of the sentiment from the Fed on the planned interest rate hike later this year, the strengthening of the rupiah is not expected to be too extreme," head of research unit of NH Korindo Securitas Indonesia Reza Priyambada said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Reza further said that investors hoped that the Greek debt issue would be settled as soon as possible, this gave a boost to the Euro and also affected the rupiah.
"The rupiah rate is able to take advantage of existing sentiment to move up. Its upward trend is expected to continue later today," Reza said.
Meanwhile, the head of the research unit of Monex Investindo Futures Ariston Tjendra said that rising US unemployment claims had become one of the pressures against the dollar.
"Rising unemployment claims have pushed back expectations for when the Fed's rate hike will actually take place," Ariston said. (hhr) (++++)
