Camera industry expects decline in sales

Camera sales will likely to drop this year due to the economic slowdown, says a camera business executive.

'€œDue to the global economic slowdown that hit almost all industries, we expect that the digital single-lens reflex [DSLR] camera sales will drop by 10 percent this year and the pocket camera to drop 30 percent this year,'€ said PT Datascrip division manager of Canon Image Communications Sintra Wong on the sidelines of a Canon camera launching event on Saturday.

However, PT Datascrip, which is the sole distributor of Canon Inc. products in Indonesia, still hopes to see sales growth in the next quarter.

Sintra claimed that the company managed to sell 180,000 Canon DSLR cameras last year and 200,000 pocket cameras.

The company also claims to have a 60 percent share of the DSLR camera market and a 30 percent share of the pocket camera market. (fsu)(++++)
