Kopassus makes apology for Sukoharjo incident

T

he general commander of the Army'€™s Special Force (Kopassus), Maj. Gen. Doni Monardo, made an apology to the Air Force for the Sukoharjo (Central Java) incident and said his side would support a thorough investigation into it.

One died and three others are still undergoing intensive medical treatment in Surakarta and Yogyakarta after they were attacked by more than 20 Kopassus members at a Bimo cafe in Sukoharjo, Central Java, on Sunday night, after they attended a reunion meeting with their fellow soldiers.

Mayor Sergeant Zulkifli died at the Harjolukito Hospital in Yogyakarta on Monday and his body has been transported to Jakarta and handed over to his family for a funeral in Ciracas, East Jakarta.

'€œOn behalf of the whole Kopassus family, we convey our deepest condolences. We will be also responsible for the incident,'€ he told The Jakarta Post here on Tuesday.

Doni added that he would not cover up the case and would entrust the Military Police Corps to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident.

'€œWe will also pay compensation to the victims and their families,'€ he said.
