T

he military police in Surakarta, Central Java, have questioned 17 witnesses in connection with a brawl involving operatives from the Army's Special Forces Command (Kopassus) in which an airman was killed, IV/4 Surakarta Military Police Detachment (Denpom) chief Lt. Col. Witono said on Wednesday.

The witnesses consisted of Indonesian Air Force personnel, perpetrators and a number of employees of Karaoke Bima in Solo Baru, Sukoharjo regency, the scene of a brawl that claimed the life of Sgt. Maj. Zulkifli of the Air Force.

"We have questioned 17 witnesses, including the perpetrators, in a marathon session since Tuesday," Witono said at Denpom IV/4 headquarters.

In addition to questioning the witnesses, he added that the military police had also examined CCTV footage at the crime scene.

"Investigators have conducted a crime scene investigation that will be followed by the drafting up of the dossiers and a reenactment," Witono said.

He added that the military police had detained five commandos from Kopassus' Group 2 at Kandang Menjangan in Kartasura, Sukoharjo.

"The number could increase depending on further investigation."

Witono said the brawl between the airmen and Kopassus operatives was not caused by friction between two military units but was a spontaneous fight resulting from a personal feud. (nvn)(+++)
