L
. Samosir, lawyer for Christopher Daniel Sjarief, who was behind the wheel during a deadly car accident that claimed four lives in South Jakarta, said his client was not fully conscious when he was driving the car.
Samosir said he hoped a medical expert would be able to reveal that fact before the panel of the judges in a future hearing.
'My client was not in a stable condition that night. He was mumbling right after the incident. It may have been an effect of something he took earlier that day,' Samosir told reporters after a court hearing at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday.
In a previous hearing, Christopher told the court that on the night of the incident his friend gave him a small piece of paper that could be swallowed.
Christopher was charged with Article 311 of the 2009 Traffic and Land Transportation Law regarding reckless driving and with Article 312 regarding hit and run offenses, which carry a maximum of 12 years' imprisonment.
