ndonesia was reappointed as a member of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) council during the FAO's recent conference.
The reappointment was approved by the FAO's 119 member countries, the first secretary on multilateral cooperation at Indonesian embassy in Rome, Royhan N. Wahab, told Antara news agency on Saturday.
Indonesia will replace Malaysia for the upcoming period between 2015 and 2018.
Indonesia was a member of the council in the 2012 to 2014 period before it was replaced by Malaysia.
The secretary-general of the Agriculture Ministry, Hari Priyono, who represented Indonesia in the FAO conference, said it was important for Indonesia to be reappointed to the FAO council.
The position, he explained, would give opportunities for Indonesia to contribute more in the formulation of new policies concerning global food security. (ika)(+++)
