Truimph: Triyaningsih runs a victory lap after winning the womenâs 10,000 meter race
For the first time in 22 years, Singapore hosted this year's southeast asian (SEA) Games from 5 to 16 June. About 7,000 athletes from 11 participating nations competed for 1,327 medals at the 28th edition of the tournament, with 402 events in 36 sports.
Host Singapore began to see the fruit of its investment in sports, ending the two-week competition with the second-largest gold tally. Thailand retained the championship title with 95 golds, followed by the host with 84 golds. Vietnam made up the top three with 73 golds.
Indonesia, which last won the championship when it hosted the event in 2011, languished in fifth place with 47 golds, behind Malaysia's 62 golds.
The 28th edition of the biennial multi-sport event came to a close on Tuesday. Some athletes will cherish victories, while others will rue missed chances while promising to come back stronger in the next Games in Malaysia in 2017.
