ndonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) chairman La Nyalla Mattalitti has said a match-fixing allegation made against Indonesia's U-23 team during the 2015 Southeast Asia (SEA) Games in Singapore is 'slanderous' and asked all parties who brought up the issue to prove it.
'On a match-fixing allegation that involves the U-23 team during the SEA Games, I want this to be proven. Please don't slander,' he said via his Twitter account, as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Wednesday.
La Nyalla said a recording of a talk on a score-fixing of the Indonesia versus Thailand semi-final match during the 2015 SEA Games could not be used as valid evidence.
'About the recording, anybody can make such a recording. ['¦] So, please don't slander,' he said.
La Nyalla said the U-23 team was defeated in its semifinal match and struggled to win the third position during the SEA Games were because it performed poorer than Thailand and Vietnam.
'The U-23 team's defeats were purely because its performance quality was lower. All of the team's players had fought optimally. It's impossible for the U-23 team to commit such a match-fixing as what it has been accused of,' he said.
'Their spirits have been down because of the defeats and now the match-fixing allegation and new coverage have put more pressure on them,' he said.
La Nyalla said the PSSI would bring the match-fixing allegation to justice. 'I will make sure that the PSSI will not stand still in facing the match-fixing allegation. The PSSI will fight against the slander with legal procedures,' he said. (ebf)(+++)
