he Jakarta city administration on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the West Sumatra provincial administration to facilitate cross-province fishing. Under the MoU, vessels of Jakarta-based firms may fish in the waters of West Sumatra, in accordance with Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry Regulation No. 36/2014.
'There are many fish in West Sumatra, such as tuna, but our province lacks capable firms to catch, process and distribute the fish,' said provincial Governor Irwan Prayitno at City Hall.
Irwan added that West Sumatra would also benefit from the pact, as Jakarta vessels would pay tax at the province's ports.
