ollowing the opposition by the National Democratic party (NasDem) to the proposal to the allocations of Rp 20 billion (US$1.5 million) per lawmaker, to help them develop their constituencies, the People's Conscience (Hanura) party has also rejected the plan.
Hanura party faction head Nurdin Tampubolon said that it was not the job of the House to handle and control fund allocations for regions. Instead, the House's priority should be catering to the needs of the wider nation.
"We do not want to participate in any task that is not part of the House's proper duties. Right now, we do not see this proposal as urgent to implement. We would rather focus on more pressing issues such as the economic slowdown," Nurdin told reporters at a press conference at the House complex on Thursday.
In addition, Nurdin also called for the revision of a certain clause in the Legislative Institutions Law (known as the MD3 law) that serves as the legal basis for the proposed constituency funds.
Earlier, the National Democratic said that they opposed the proposal because of an apparent lack of legal or social grounds.(dmr)(++++)
