iti 'Ipung' Saputra, a representative of the Center for Integrated Services for Empowerment of Women and Children in Denpasar, Bali, who is providing legal advocacy for the biological mother of murdered child Engeline, says she has been threatened after suggesting motives for the killing.
Feeling perturbed and unsafe following the intimidation, she said she would ask for protection from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK). The threats, she revealed, had been made by a man calling himself Erwin.
She had been receiving up to 20 phone calls a day, she added, asking for her home address to discuss the murder case.
LPSK chairman Abdul Haris Semendawai said his side was prepared to provide protection for Ipung.
'If she needs it, she can ask for protection from the LPSK,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Agustinus 'Agus' Tai Hamdamai, a suspect in the murder case, testified to the police during his interrogation in Denpasar on Wednesday night that Engeline had been murdered by her adoptive mother Margriet Megawe in her room on May 16. Agus, a former domestic helper at Margriet's house, claimed to have been ordered by Margriet to bury the girl's body in the garden of the house. (rms)
