National scene: Body of RI maid to be sent back home

T

he Foreign Ministry have stated that the body of Indonesian national Wiji Astuti, who was murdered in Hong Kong, will be sent back home in the near future.

'€œThe Hong Kong police have allowed the Indonesian Consulate General [KJRI] to receive the victim'€™s corpse and send it home,'€ Foreign Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said.

Arrmanatha also said the Hong Kong police will hand over Astuti'€™s body to the KJRI on June 22, at which point the body would be transported back to her hometown in Surabaya, East Java the following day.

Regarding the murder case, Arrmanatha said that the Hong Kong police had named two persons as suspects behind the homicide.

'€œOne of the two suspects is Astuti'€™s boyfriend. He has been detained by the police and has helped in the reconstruction process,'€ Arrmanatha said.

Astuti was found dead on June 8 by a few pedestrians passing by Chang Sha Street in the Mong Kok district of Hong Kong at 10:45 a.m., local time.

Astuti was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, a Hong Kong native and suspected drug dealer.
