ix-year-old Muhammad Syawal was dozing in the female surgery ward of RSUD Dok II Jayapura hospital when Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Yohana Yembise visited him on Sunday.
Police rushed Syawal to the hospital on Tuesday after they picked him up at his parents' rented house following report from locals that an injured boy had been seen staggering around the house.
'Every time Syawal soiled his pants, Mother and Father promptly beat him,' the boy's half sister, Devi, 16, said at the hospital.
Syawal's physical condition has improved since he was admitted to the hospital.
The Jayapura Police have detained both Syawal's mother Deby Husein and step father Kurnia Jali.
Yohana Yembise said that she would find a relative to take care of Syawal but if there were none available the boy would be taken into the care of the state and placed in an orphanage.
