transjakarta bus hit and killed a motorcyclist after the latter tried to get into the busway lane on Jl. Yos Sudarso in North Jakarta on Tuesday morning.
On-duty traffic police officer Adj. Comr. Turyono said that Toni Saptoni, 49, was hit by transjakarta bus corridor 10 with police plate number B7721IS serving the Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta to PGC Cililitan in East Jakarta route.
'Toni drove from the Plumpang intersection heading toward Mall of Indonesia [both in North Jakarta]. The normal lane was jammed, and when he tried to move to the bus lane he slipped by the separator. That was when the bus hit him,' Turyono said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Turyono said that the victim died on the spot.
The police have detained the bus driver, Andi Sumardi, and have secured the bus for further investigation.
Separately, police spokesman Sr. Comr. Muhammad Iqbal said on Tuesday that, 'In any case involving accidents happening on transjakarta bus lanes, if the motorcyclists were in the bus lane, they will always be wrong, the buses are safe.'(rbk) (++++)
