ighty people have failed to secure their bids for the upcoming simultaneous regional elections because of a lack of political support, according to General Elections Commission (KPU) chairman Husni Kamil Manik.
He said that 254 pairs had registered bids, but only 174 had met administrative and legal requirements.
'Most of the disqualified candidates failed to win the minimum political support. A small part registered late with the elections agency or failed to comply with procedures,' he said in a hearing with the House's Commission II on home affairs and regional autonomy in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The 2015 Local Elections Law requires an independent candidate to win at least 10 percent of the total votes to validate his or her candidacy.(++++)
