A panel of judges from the Medan District Court in North Sumatra on Tuesday held a hearing at the crime scene for the first time in a case of murder and abuse against domestic maids involving defendants Syamsul Anwar and his wife Bibi Randika.
The 20-minute closed-door trial, held at the house of the defendants on Jl. Beo in Medan, was presided over by judge Aksir and attended by prosecutors, the defendants and three witnesses, who were accompanied by counselors from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency.
A flare-up occurred between witnesses and the defendants during the session. The witnesses, according to Aksir, became irate when the defendants denied the formers' testimony.
Syamsul underwent an initial hearing in May this year. He has been indicted for a number of crimes, including human trafficking, domestic violence, murder and concealing a body. Bibi has also stood trial at the Medan District Court, indicted of multiple charges for abusing and killing a maid named Hermin, alias Cici.
