emocratic Party (PD) lawmaker Ruhut Sitompul has claimed that the party is still opposed to the constituency funds proposal, despite support from the party's House faction on Tuesday.
He said that the party was still sticking to the stance made by PD chairman and former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who outlined on his Twitter account five concerns over the proposal.
Ruhut said that as long as concerns over the supervision of the funds' spending and the proposal's weaknesses, were not addressed, then the party would reject the plan.
'The proposal will go through a long procedure with the last station being the President's approval. Yudhoyono himself has long opposed the proposal, but party members support the plan and some provoke others to accept it. They should quit the party,' he said.
According to the proposal, each of 560 legislators will be given Rp 20 billion (US$1.5 million) annually to carry out development programs in their own electoral districts.(+++)
