Your comments on the celebration of Jakarta'€™s 488th anniversary on Monday as the city is struggling to address mounting problems, such as traffic gridlock, annual flooding and housing for low-income families and also your ideas on the most urgent issues that should be immediately addressed in the city.

I think the leading subjects, traffic gridlock, annual flooding and housing for low-income people, should be the main priorities and should be handled in a parallel way.

However, the traffic gridlock is the most urgent because it hinders economic development '€” add up the daily cost to the people and the impact on the city'€™s image. Furthermore, many policies have no real impact on the real problem, like the three-in-one policy. A solution to traffic gridlock needs to address the mobility of the people and it needs to refresh methods of transportation.

One single urgent issue is never enough to describe Jakarta. I think Jakarta urgently needs mass rapid transportation.

The number of Transjakarta buses has to be increased and there needs to be more commuter trains, and the two have to arrive and depart on time. More attention also needs to be paid to safety and maintenance.

Jakartans also need low- to middle-income apartments in the city, with a reasonable price but also of decent quality. We need open public spaces, such as parks, jogging tracks and bike tracks. We do not need any more malls, enough with the malls. Anyways, happy birthday Jakarta!

Jakartans will be happy if we stop corruption. Happy birthday Jakarta.

Having been in Jakarta for more than 30 years I have the obligation to participate in the continuous improvement of the capital city in every way possible to make the city more and more livable. The traffic gridlock, which is commonly caused by the perennial floods, needs immediate attention as it has caused tremendous inconveniences and loss.

Aside from 13 rivers flowing into the city dumping tons of water and debris, the rivers inundate the city mercilessly. However, we can reduce the damage caused by flooding by the management of tons of garbage. Improve our nation by cleaning our cities of all the trash, to prevent the floods and associated diseases.

This will provide a good example to other cities in the archipelago. Not only will this keep the city clean and free of many kinds of diseases, it will also provide organic fertilizer to all our farmers in the archipelago for free.
