Economy in brief: Pujobroto resigns from Garuda spokesman post

After speaking for publicly listed flag-carrier Garuda Indonesia for 17 years, Pujobroto has decided to resign from his post.

'€œ[I] would like to give a chance to the younger generation and talents at Garuda to support the new management in developing Garuda going forward,'€ Pujobroto said on Wednesday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Last December, six members of the firm'€™s board of directors and five members of the board of commissioners were dismissed amid difficult financial conditions. The management shake-up included the president director post, which is now filled by Arif Wibowo, the former CEO of Garuda'€™s low-cost unit Citilink, replacing Emirsyah Satar.

Garuda Indonesia has now become a five-star airline and sits among top 10 world airlines, underscoring challenges for the new management to maintain and improve the firm'€™s brand image and reverse last year'€™s financial losses into profits.
