he West Java branch of Bank Indonesia (BI) has prepared Rp 14.44 trillion (US$1.1 billion) in various denominations to meet the public demand for small change, which tends to increase in the run-up to Idul Fitri.
'The amount has increased by 15.5 percent from the previous year's Rp 12.5 trillion,' said West Java BI office head Rosmaya Hadi in Bandung on Wednesday.
The cash, added Rosmaya, was aimed at facilitating people's access to small denominations ahead of Idul Fitri, which falls on July 17 and 18 this year.
The preparation, Rosmaya went on, was related to the holiday tradition of handing out cash to children, adding that the wider public was not accustomed to using electronic forms of payment.
