Jakarta development plans to focus on three sectors

T

he Jakarta City Administration has decided to focus on three sectors in its development programs to bring the Indonesian capital up to par with the other capital cities of the world.

"Currently, the Jakarta provincial government is focusing on three fields in its development programs. They include rental public apartments, transportation and green open spaces," Deputy Governor of Jakarta Djarot Saiful Hidayat said as quoted by Antara news agency on Wednesday evening.

The target concerning public apartments has to be realized soon to accommodate those who are forced to leave their houses near the river embankments because the areas are required for a river normalization program.

"We are concentrating on developing public apartments to rent out as many as possible, to support the smooth implementation of the river normalization program and to provide better accommodation for the inhabitants," he said.

In the transportation sector, authorities in Jakarta will increase the number of TransJakarta buses.

"Among other measures, we added 20 Scania articulated buses to the TransJakarta fleet on Monday (June 22). The rise in the number of TransJakarta buses is expected to improve the quality of services of the transportation system," Hidayat said.

Furthermore, green open spaces currently cover only 10 percent of the city, while Jakarta aims to bring this figure to some 30 percent of its total area.

In addition, the Indonesian capital plans to develop more parks and child-friendly open public spaces, he noted. (hhr)
