T

he National Police'€™s security chief, Comr. Gen. Putut Eko Bayu Seno, said on Thursday that the police would deploy up to 255,362 officers to monitor the upcoming regional elections (Pilkada) that would start on Dec. 9.

Putut elaborated that the police had already identified conflict-prone areas during the Pilkada season and would coordinate with the Indonesian Military (TNI) to anticipate the situation.

Based on the police'€™s data, the huge number of police officers involved in this operation is required to secure certain areas.

'€œAs the police, we aim to protect and uphold a conducive situation for the upcoming elections.'€ Putut said during a meeting with the House of Representatives on Thursday.

He added that an additional 15,420 members of the regional Mobile Brigade (Brimob Daerah) would also be included in the operation.

The operation will cover all 269 election areas, consisting of 9 provinces, 224 regencies and 36 cities. (ika)(++++)
