ouse of Representatives deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah said that routine inter-institutional meetings should be held on identifying and resolving problems related to the regional elections (Pilkada), so that any problem that might arise before, during or after the elections can be handled smoothly.
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) lawmaker's comments came after a Thursday meeting held by the House's commission II overseeing regional autonomy and commission III overseeing legal affairs with the Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), the attorney general, the home minister and the police, on the upcoming Pilkada season.
He elaborated that there are numerous problems that must be addressed beforehand, including funding, security and the mobilization of election workers. Another notable problem is the potential of disputes that would arise following the pollings.
'As far as I've seen at the meeting, those problems have not been clearly addressed yet. We must identify and handle these problems before the elections begin. I propose that we hold joint meetings like this more often to gradually discuss solving them,' Fahri said.
He added that the Home Ministry shared his opinion that there should be routine meetings to discuss these issues before the elections begin in December. (++++)
