Tower dismantled for lacking permit

T

he East Jakarta Spatial Planning Office has dismantled a base transceiver station (BTS) tower in Cakung Timur after it was discovered that it lacked a building permit (IMB).

The office'€™s head, Syamsul Ikhsan, said on Thursday that the 35-meter tower was erected in January last year and had been in operation for a while.

Syamsul said the owner, telecommunication tower operator PT Solusi Tunas Pramata, had intended to apply for the permit but residents of the Jakarta Garden City housing complex near the tower had objected to the existence of the tower.

'€œThe residents are afraid that if the tower collapses, it will fall on their houses,'€ he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Syamsul said the existence of the tower was in violation of Bylaw No 7/2012 on building construction and Gubernatorial Regulation No 128/2012 on building construction enforcement.

In East Jakarta, at least seven BTW towers do not have permits. Syamsul said the towers had all been sealed and would likely be dismantled after Idul Fitri. (cor/ika)(++++)
