Greater Jakarta: Minivan rapist to soon be prosecuted soon

fter having obtained a confession from their suspect, the South Jakarta Police are set to complete the dossier of a public minivan driver who allegedly raped a female passenger over the weekend.

On Friday at midnight, the suspect, identified only as DAS, 21, allegedly raped NA, 35, in his minivan, after parking it on Jl. TB Simatupang, East Cilandak, South Jakarta. The suspect had previously offered to transport the victim to her house in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, from her workplace in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. DAS was a driver of a blue minivan plying Ciputat in South Tangerang, Banten, and Kebayoran, South Jakarta. South Jakarta Police spokesman Comr. Aswin said on Thursday that the investigators were now only waiting for the medical and psychological reports on the victim to complete the dossier.

'€œWe are working on the dossier to have it submitted to the prosecutor'€™s office soon because we have gathered all the pieces of evidence, including the suspect'€™s confession,'€ he said over the phone.

The suspect, who had been in South Jakarta Police custody since Saturday, was charged under Article 285 of the Criminal Code on rape, which carries a maximum punishment of 12 years in prison.
