n earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale rocked Madiun, East Java, on Thursday evening, causing panic among residents.
The hardest hit area was Klumutan village in the Saradan district, where 57 houses were destroyed, including seven that were leveled to the ground. Fortunately, the quake did not cause any casualties.
'Not only me, other residents were also in a panic because of the tremor. My family rushed with me to leave the village for safer areas,' Diro, one of Klumutan villagers, said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the epicenter of the quake was located at a depth of 10 kilometers. It was 12 kilometers to the southeast of Madiun.
