nstitut Madani Nusantara director Nanat Fatah Natsir has said Indonesia needs quick solutions, one of which is through a Cabinet reshuffle, to deal with the ongoing economic slowdown.
'Indonesia's economic condition has continued to weaken. We should immediately take a quick and proper solution; otherwise, an economic crisis like the one that happened in 1998 will occur,' he said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Monday.
The chairman of the presidium of the Association of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) said reshuffling Cabinet ministers, especially those who were in the field of economics and justice, was one of solutions to overcome the ongoing economic slowdown. Changes of ministers in other fields would also be possible if President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo considered those ministers were no longer able to work optimally.
'Appointing and dismissing a minister is a prerogative of the President. It is up to him whether he wants to change ministers in his Cabinet,' said the former State Islamic University (UIN) of Bandung rector.
In a breaking-of-the-fast event with leaders of the House of Representatives on Tuesday evening, President Jokowi responded to a journalist's question about a Cabinet reshuffle that had recently been speculated about in public.
He said no one was allowed to bother ministers, who were currently working on their duties, with various issues including about a Cabinet reshuffle. Only he knew well the work reports of ministers in the Cabinet, he added. (ebf)(++++)
