Islands in focus: Police chase new suspect in Engeline'€™s murder

P

olice have claimed to have a new suspect in the murder case of 8-year-old Engeline Margriet Megawe, but are still collecting evidence to complete the investigation, an official said.

'€œOur investigation is working on [a new suspect]. We will announce more later,'€ Bali Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Hery Wiyanto was quoted by tempo.co as saying on Saturday.

Hery said the police had recently collected new evidence from the house of Engeline'€™s adoptive mother, Margriet Christina Megawe, including some blood-stained goods and a mobile phone belonging to murder suspect Agustay '€œAgus'€ Hamda May.

So far, Agus is the only suspect in the murder case, which saw Engeline'€™s body found buried in the backyard of her home on Jl. Sedap Malam, Denpasar, on June 10, a month after the girl was reported missing. Last week, Agus denied having killed Engeline, saying that he was just ordered by Margriet to bury her body.
