rench investors are interested in the construction of Indonesia's biggest maritime science and technology park in Penajam Paser Utara regency, East Kalimantan.
"The construction of the project is expected to create positive impacts for the improvement of local people's welfare," Penajam Paser Utara Regent Yusran Aspar said in Balikpapan on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency without giving details on the investors' interest.
The techno park project is designed to be integrated with the Buluminung and Kariangau industrial areas to help boost economic development, especially in the creation of new job opportunities, housing, transportation and other things, he said.
"The administration strongly supports this project by providing land to be the location of the techno park," Aspar said, adding that his administration had earmarked a 100-hectare plot of land as a construction site, he said.
The maritime techno park is a pilot project for a maritime development and research center, designed by the Assessment and Application of Technology Agency (BPPT), and it will be funded by the central government, he said.
"This research center will be equipped with 12 research vessels," Aspar added. (hhr)(+++)
