Greater Jakarta: Man nabbed for hypnosis theft of Rp 2b

T

he Jakarta Police have arrested a man, identified only as AL, one of five fraud suspects who allegedly hypnotized and robbed their victims.

Police said the gang recently stole Rp 2 billion (US$150,375) from a victim at Pluit Market in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, in April.

Jakarta Police violent crime sub directorate unit head Herry Heryawan said AL, 59, was detained in May.

'€œThe gang was organized. In the last case, they convinced the victim he was sick. They hypnotized the victim and got him into a car and then asked him to hand over his possessions, including cash and debit cards,'€ Herry said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.

He said other gang members, identified only as AH, AC, AW and AGT, remained at large. Police warned that crimes involving hypnosis tended to increase in the approach to Idul Fitri.
