National Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief candidate Sutiyoso will undergo a fit and proper test at the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Tuesday, where he will outline his vision and mission for the BIN under his leadership.
Before the test, Sutiyoso, who is a former Jakarta governor, said that among the priority missions he will try to undertake is the strengthening of Indonesia's cyber intelligence unit, which he admits is a weak point in Indonesian intelligence.
'We have to be able to compete with foreign intelligence services through the enhancement of our equipment if we want a strong and professional institution,' he said before his test on Tuesday.
When asked to comment whether an event that took place on July 27, 1996, the 'Kuda Tuli' incident in which he allegedly ordered a raid on the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle headquarters that resulted in several deaths, will be part of the discussion with the House Commission I overseeing intelligence and foreign affairs, Sutiyoso declined to answer.
His fit and proper test is due to begin at 11 a.m. (hhr)(+++)
