s many as 18 victims of the Hercules C-130 crash in Medan, North Sumatra, will be transported to Pekanbaru, Riau, via Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force Base belonging to the Indonesian Air Force, an official has said.
'As of now, 18 people's remains have been registered to be transported to Pekanbaru,' said Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force Base commander Col. Khairul Lubis as quoted by Antara news agency in Pekanbaru, on Wednesday.
He said a post had been set up at the airport to receive reports on and to handle the arrival of the victims' remains. A board with names of the victims had been placed on a wall at the post.
Khairul confirmed that 10 personnel from Battalion 462 of the Indonesian Air Force's Special Force (Paskhas) unit were among the victims of the Hercules crash. The Paskhas team, which was traveling on the aircraft to Tanjung Pinang, was led by First Sgt. Irianto Sili.
Other victims were Second Sgt. Sugiyantoro, Second Cpl. Mujiman, Second Cpl. Saryanto, Second Cpl. Endria W., Second Cpl. Eria Ageng, First Pvt. Sepridoni, First Pvt. Warsianto, First Pvt. Rudi Haryono and First Pvt. Ardian Wibowo.
Khairul said, however, that not all bodies of Paskhas personnel would be taken to Pekanbaru.
'Only three people will be buried in Pekanbaru while one victim will be taken to Selatpanjang, Meranti Islands regency,' he said.
'One Paskhas officer's body will be flown to Iswahjudi Air Force Base in Madiun and another will be buried in Biak, Papua. The four remaining victims will be taken to Adisucipto Air Force Base in Yogyakarta,' he went on.
Khairul said among the 18 Hercules victims whose bodies would be flown to Pekanbaru were Second Sgt. Ainul Abidin, 30, a Natuna military district command member, and his family members, comprising Ainul's wife Tri Astuti Indah Sari, 30, and their two children, Rizky Putri Ramadhani, 11, and Muhammad Arif Wicaksono, 7.
Khairul confirmed that the remains of several civilian victims, some of whom were university students, would also be transported to Pekanbaru. The number and names of the victims could not be confirmed, however, he said. (ebf)(++++)
