Indonesia AirAsia takes off for Jeddah

I

ndonesia AirAsia X, an associate carrier of Malaysian budget airline AirAsia, said on Wednesday that it had launched its first direct flight from Jakarta to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday morning.

The flight celebrated the airline'€™s securing a flight permit from the Saudi aviation authority last June.

'€œThis is a real achievement, considering that it is not easy for an airline to secure a permit from the Saudi authority,'€ the company'€™s president director Dendy Kurniawan said in a statement as quoted by kompas.com.

With the permit, Dendy said the airline could offer affordable prices for costumers planning to go on haj (pilgrimage) or umrah (minor pilgrimage) from Indonesia, home to the world'€™s largest Muslim population.

However, the tickets are not yet on sale to the public.

According to the statement, the airline will start flying from Jakarta to Jeddah five times a week in November. (ika)(+++)
