he number of homeward-bound travelers, moving from Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi to Central Java is projected to reach 6.8 million people during this year's Idul Fitri, a rise of 5.66 percent on last year.
They are expected to arrive in Central Java on various modes of transportation. The Central Java provincial administration estimated the number of travelers using motorbikes could reach 1,903,048, with the number in private cars as many as 2,207,968. Around 96,465 people will travel by plane, 27,824 people by ferry and 302,450 by train.
Central Java Traffic Police director Sr. Comr. Benyamin said the peak of the exodus would take place from July 14 to 16 this year.
'There are around 110 accident-prone locations, 113 congestion-prone areas and 77 markets overflowing on to the streets. Residents must also be cautious of 17 congestion-prone railway crossings, 205 unguarded railway crossings and 216 guarded railway crossings,' said Benyamin.
