rmy chief Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo has almost reached his destination of Cilangkap in East Jakarta to take over the Indonesian Military's (TNI) top post, after the House of Representatives Commission I on information, defense and foreign affairs gave its political endorsement to his nomination to succeed Gen. Moeldoko.
'The House commission unanimously decides to approve the nomination by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo of Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo as TNI commander,' commission chairman Mahfudz Siddiq said after concluding the fit and proper test for Gatot on Wednesday.
He added Gatot had met all administrative and competence requirements.
Mahfudz said that during the fit and proper test, Gatot was able to map out geopolitical and geo-economic threats that Indonesia would likely face and he also presented good programs on human resources and weaponry systems development in the future.
Gatot will be sworn in as the new TNI chief after his nomination wins political endorsement from the House in its upcoming plenary session.
Moeldoko will enter mandatory retirement age on Aug. 1, 2015. (rms)(++++)
