Gatot'€™s strategy to end conflicts among soldiers, police

I

ndonesian Military chief hopeful Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo said he would enforce discipline and provide early education to soldiers to end conflict among them as well as between soldiers and police personnel in the field.

'€œStrengthening discipline among soldiers must be done during their education. For instance, soldiers with hair styles that are not in line with the rules will be given disciplinary sanctions,'€ he said after undergoing a fit and proper test before the House of Representatives'€™ Commission I on information, defense and foreign affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Besides the education and training periods, discipline will also be enforced in all units such as companies, battalions and military commands and all unit chiefs will be in charge of disciplining all their subordinates.

'€œIf soldiers are involved in brawls or clashes, this means their unit is not professional and their leader has no capability and is not competent,'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com. (rms)(++++)
